Company Safety Policy

TBCL is committed to a strong safety program that protects its staff, its property and the public from accidents.

Employees at every level, including management, are responsible and accountable for the company’s overall safety initiatives. Complete and active participation by everyone, every day, in every job, is necessary for the safety excellence the company expects. Management supports coordination of safety among all workers on the job site.

Management supports participation in the program by all employees, and provides proper equipment training and procedures. Employees are responsible for following all procedures, working safely and wherever possible, improving safety measures.

An injury and accident free workplace is our goal. Through continuous safety and loss control effort, we can accomplish this.

TBCL is proud to be recognized for its adherence to the highest safety standards of the industry. TBCL employs three qualified Safety Auditors and one certified CSO who ensure excellence within our Safety Program.

TBCL has an excellent Safety Program administered at both the office and worksite levels. The company holds a Certificate of Recognition (C.O.R.) issued by Alberta Labour (OH&S Certification #20021113-4168)

TBCL received “Safety Award Winner” from Alberta Roadbuilders & Heavy Construction Association in 1992, 1995 & 2000.

Company Environmental Policy

Thompson Bros. (Constr.) Ltd. is committed to protection of the environment and will strive to meet or surpass all federal, provincial and municipal environmental laws and contractual requirements set out by the Client at all times and under all circumstances.

Thompson Bros. (Constr.) Ltd. will:

  • ensure responsibilities are assigned;
  • ensure that staff is provided with the proper training and that they are aware and competent;
  • ensure that there is proper communication, operational control and emergency preparedness on all company projects; and
  • act promptly and responsibly to correct incidents or conditions that endanger the environment and inform those who may be affected.

It is our goal to be environmentally responsible in every location of which the company operates.

TBCL employees and subcontractors follow the Environmental Policy outlined in the Company Safety Manual (see Appendix ‘C’ Environmental) as well as ECO Plans (Alberta Transportation Environmental Construction Operations Plan, Framework, issued July 2001, version 1) developed for each specific project.

Company personnel have completed environmental training provided by:

  • PITS (Petroleum Industry Training System)
  • Olds College


We Suppy in-house training for:

 
  • CSTS (Construction Safety Training System
  • RSTS (Road Builders Safety Training System
  • WHIMS
  • TDG
  • Flagperson Training

We provide external training for:

  • Leadership of Safety Excellence
  • First Aid
  • H2S
  • Confined Space Entry
  • Temporary Traffic Accommodation

Additional specialized training is provided as required to ensure safety in the workplace.

Our Safety Program and record has led to reduced WCB assessments in the past, and we hold valid WCB accounts in both Alberta and British Columbia.
